About HEIC to PNG

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads have saved photos in by default since iOS 11. The files are small and high quality, but plenty of websites, Windows programs and older apps still will not open them — which is usually why you are here.

A PNG opens in every browser and editor and is lossless, so it is a safe, universal copy of the picture. Need it under a file-size limit in kilobytes as well? Send the PNG through the image compressor afterwards — JPG, PNG and WebP are exactly what it takes.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Open this page in Safari on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, then drop your HEIC files onto the box above, or tap it to pick them from your photos. One, or up to thirty at once.
  2. PNG is already selected for you. It is lossless, so there is no quality to set and nothing to adjust.
  3. Press Convert, then Download — one PNG for a single image, or one zip for a batch. Every step runs on your device.

Good to know

Reading HEIC needs Safari

The conversion uses your browser's own decoder, and only Safari — on iPhone, iPad and Mac — reads HEIC. On Windows or Android most browsers cannot, and the tool says so the instant you pick the file rather than after a wait. On an iPhone you can also sidestep HEIC altogether: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible saves new photos as JPG.

Nothing is uploaded

There is no server to upload to. Your HEIC is decoded and re-encoded as PNG by this browser, and the Download button points at the result sitting in your own device's memory. Turn your Wi-Fi off once this page has loaded and it still works — the privacy policy walks through the same check. As a side effect of re-encoding, the PNG carries no camera, date or GPS metadata.

Questions and answers

How do I convert HEIC to PNG?

Drop your HEIC (in Safari, on an iPhone, iPad or Mac) onto the box above — PNG is already chosen for you — then press Convert and Download. Nothing is uploaded; the whole thing happens in your browser.

Is the HEIC to PNG converter free?

Yes — free, with no account, no email and no watermark on what you download. There is no daily limit either, because there is no server counting your files.

Does my HEIC file get uploaded anywhere?

No. Each HEIC is decoded and re-encoded as PNG inside your browser using the Canvas API, so it never leaves your device — turn your Wi-Fi off once the page has loaded and it still works. As a side effect of re-encoding, the PNG carries no EXIF, camera or GPS metadata.

Can I convert HEIC on Windows or Android?

Only if the browser can read HEIC, and most on Windows and Android cannot yet — the tool tells you the moment you pick the file. The reliable route is an Apple device in Safari. On an iPhone you can also switch new photos to JPG at Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes — add up to thirty and they come back as a single zip, each one a PNG. A file that happens to be PNG already is left as it is rather than re-encoded into a worse copy of itself.
