Your photos and files

Files you open in PhotoToKB are never uploaded. That applies to every tool on the site without exception — compressing to a KB limit, resizing to exact pixels, cropping and rotating, converting HEIC or WebP to JPG, and the passport and signature presets. Each of them decodes your file with your browser's own image stack, redraws it onto a canvas, re-encodes it, and hands the result straight back to you as a download. No copy is sent anywhere, stored on a server, or seen by anyone — including me.

Bulk runs work the same way. When you compress or convert up to thirty images at once, the zip file is assembled inside the page and downloaded from your own device; the individual files are never collected anywhere first.

You can verify this rather than take my word for it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and compress a photo. No request carries your image. You can also disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded, and every tool keeps working.

As a side effect of re-encoding, EXIF metadata — camera model, timestamp, GPS coordinates — is discarded and does not appear in the file you download. Nothing is kept after you leave, either: the image lives in the page's memory while you work on it and is gone when you close or reload the tab.

What is stored on your device

One setting, and only if you change it. When you use the light/dark switch in the header, your choice is saved in your browser's localStorage under the keyphototokb-theme, with the value light ordark. That is a display preference, it never leaves your browser, and clearing your site data removes it. It is the only key the site writes.

PhotoToKB sets no cookies of any kind, and stores no images, filenames, presets or history — a size limit you typed yesterday is not remembered today.

Accounts and personal data

There are no accounts, no sign-up, no email capture and no contact form. The site asks you for no personal information, so there is nothing for it to store or leak. If you choose to email me, that message sits on a mail server like any other email, and I only use it to reply to you.

Analytics and third parties

At the time of writing there are no analytics, no tracking pixels and no advertising scripts on this site. The page also loads no third-party fonts, scripts, iframes or embeds — everything it needs is served from its own domain, using the fonts already on your device. There is nothing here to build a profile out of and no third party receiving anything about your visit.

If privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics are ever added, this page will be updated and re-dated before that happens, and the change will say what is measured.

Hosting and server logs

The site is static files hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical information involved in delivering a page — your IP address, the time of the request, which file was requested and your browser's user-agent string — for security, abuse prevention and basic traffic figures. Every website works this way. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy terms, and it never includes your photos: the only things requested from the server are the page, the stylesheet and the scripts that then do the work locally.

Children

PhotoToKB is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Data-protection rules such as the GDPR and the UK GDPR give you the right to access, correct or delete personal data held about you. Because this site collects and stores none, there is nothing for me to hand over or erase. Server-log data sits with Cloudflare as the hosting provider; requests about it are best directed to them.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page gets updated and the date at the top changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify you, so that date is the only signal. Check it whenever you want to know whether anything has changed. The terms and conditions carry their own date in the same way.
